About Rachel Ford

Hi, I’m Rachel Ford, Clinical Hypnotherapist. My job and my passion is to help  people just like you to create powerful, positive and lasting change in their lives.   From working with many clients over the years, I know that everyone has within them all the resources they need to achieve the life that they desire. The only problem is that many people don’t know how to access them.

And that’s where I come in….

As a Hypnotherapist, I believe in helping people help themselves and that everyone has within them the ability to think, feel and behave differently. Using a combination of  hypnotherapy and coaching, I act as a guide, much like the GPS in your car, to take you in the direction that you want to go.

Now, I don’t claim to be able to make you taller, suddenly increase the size of any part of your anatomy or cure cancer (I strongly urge you to beware of anyone who does). But I can help you to eliminate unwanted habits and behaviours as well as to overcome limiting beliefs or emotional obstacles so that you can achieve what you want to.

My History With Self Hypnosis

My first experience with hypnosis was as a young child. My mother taught me a relaxation technique that she used herself. This was essentially a progressive relaxation followed by visualising myself in a relaxing scene. Her favourite one was to be in lying back in a row boat , hearing the faint sound of birds in nearby trees, feeling the gentle rocking motion as the boat drifted down the river. Every time I think about that scene I still become instantly relaxed.

As I grew older I was also fortunate enough to learn how to utilise this relaxed state in the form Self Hypnosis. Since then, I’ve spent over 20 years studying and practising all various forms of Self Hypnosis and have used it for everything from stress management to quitting smoking. In fact I do some form of self hypnosis every day. I love it.

A Hypnosis Nerd From Way Back

Maybe it was because of my early exposure to hypnosis that started it or maybe I was just weird. But for as long as I can remember I have always been fascinated with the human mind. As a teenager, while my friends were reading about the latest spiral perms (now there’s some 80s retro for you) I was reading about the subconscious mind. While their bookshelves were filled with teen romance novels, mine was filled with books by Joseph Murphy and Maxwell Maltz.

In fact I was so interested in how the mind works that as soon as I finished high school, I went to University to study Psychology. But it wasn’t until ten years later that I found the course that lead to me becoming a Qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist.

What About Qualifications?

There are a lot of people out there claiming to be things that they’re not. For example, there are loads of Hypnosis courses that are only a couple of weeks long (or even less). Unfortunately, many people come out of these short courses, hang up a shingle and call themselves Hypnotherapists or worse, they don’t even do a course at all. Scary thought isn’t it!

So, just in case you were wondering, I wanted to assure you that I have completed the highest level of hypnosis training available. Australia is one of the first countries to offer government accredited qualifications in Hypnotherapy.  And, amongst others, my qualifications include a Diploma Of Hypnotherapy & Counselling as well as a Cert IV in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

As a therapist, I’m always studying. And since my initial qualifications, I’ve studied Life Coaching, Neurolinguistic Programming, Thought Field Therapy & Stress Management Consulting. Like I said, I’m a hypnosis nerd, and any course that I come across that can teach my new skills or a better way of doing something, I’ll take it.

If you’re considering hypnotherapy to help you with your situation or even if you just have a few questions, you may want to take advantage of the free initial consultation.
