Self Hypnosis – So What Is It Really?

What Is Self Hypnosis

Self hypnosis usually begins with relaxation then leading yourself down into the trance state. Once you are deep enough, you can use affirmations (positive statements), visualisations, and post-hypnotic suggestion to influence your later behaviour. When you are finished, it is best to come back to a normal state of consciousness very slowly, or you may become disoriented.

What can you do with self-hypnosis?

To influence and change many types of behaviours and attitudes. For example, self hypnosis can help you stop smoking or eliminate other bad habits such as overeating, overspending, and self-sabotage. It can help you change your behaviour in other ways, too. Using the affirmations, visualisations, and post-hypnotic suggestions that go straight to your subconscious, you can move from shy to outgoing, from passive to active, and from hating your life to experiencing every day as a new adventure.

You can also train your mind to alter mental patterns such as harmful beliefs, lack of motivation, and phobias. Stress relief is a common use for self-hypnosis, along with improving memory and concentration. All of these effects depend on the affirmations and visualizations you choose when doing the exercises.

Limitations of Self Hypnosis

However, there are limitations. It does not substitute for a doctor's care for pain management and illness, or stopping medication. Always consult your doctor before using any form of hypnosis for pain or illness. Never stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Taking the time to learn how to use self hypnosis will give you a great asset for changing your mental patterns, behaviours, and attitudes. It is well worth the effort!
